5. The Steve Dahl Show -...
|
What more could possibly be said about the Steve Dahl phenomenon? Fast approaching 30 years on the air and a member of the Broadcaster\'s Hall of Fame, Steve is at the top of his game.
Steve and his radio posse (Buzz Kilman, Wendy Snyder and a host of other semi-regulars) hit the Chicago airwaves weekdays from 2 to 7 (105.9 FM WCKG), pureeing news, current events, celebrity guests, eclectic music and everyday life Dahl-style into a heady afternoon brew.
The Steve Dahl Show broadcasts from beautiful downtown Chicago, but routinely takes the show and a cabal of listeners to an array of exotic locations (including Maui, Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas and Las Vegas). Steve has done the show from an RV traveling the country (via Route 66), from a hospital room during his vasectomy, and from a zillion locations in and around Chicago.
Steve swings with a hip crowd, which keeps the show peppered with interesting folk. Guests over the years have included: Joe Walsh, Harry Shearer, John Belushi, Al Franken, Eric Idle, Penn Jillette, Albert Brooks, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Pete Townshend, Richard Lewis, Eddie Vedder, Kevin James, Michael Chikllis, Jamie Kennedy, Jeff Garlin, Bob Odenkirk, Studs Terkel... to name a few.
Steve recently celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Disco Demolition, the infamous promotion gone awry that made its way into both Chicago and Baseball history, and declared Steve Dahl a force to be reckoned with. A great new DVD documentary of the event is now available. During the festivities, Steve received buckets of well wishes and fond reminiscences (a few of which you can hear here). A feature film is in the works.
Steve\'s many parody songs and classic bits were part of growing up in Chicagoland in the 80s and 90s. From Ayatolla to Oh Wally to Vasectomy, Steve\'s original compositions capture moments in Chicago history with his usual, candid eye. Dahl fans enjoy his \"every guy\" approach to life in Chicago, his many impressions (his Bill Kurtis simply cannot be touched), willingness to explore and expose new music, and general take on life, through the comic prism that is Steve.
Recently Steve was named one of the 100 Most Important Radio Talk Show Hosts by Talkers Magazine. Very cool, but if you\'ve lived in Chicago or tuned into the show via the web, you already knew that Steve Dahl is an important force for good in American radio.
Today the show, and Stever himself is in peak form, churning out 5 hours of fun each weekday from 2-7 and making afternoons go down smooth.
